Frequently Asked Questions

Most students will finish the MJ degree in approximately two years, taking classes online in a part-time schedule while working full time. With permission, some students may choose to speed up or slow down their progress toward graduation.

How much time can I expect to spend each week on my coursework?

As with all graduate programs, you get out of it what you put into it. Students in an MJ program should anticipate spending approximately 10-15 hours per week on their coursework. Approximately one-third of this time will be spent participating in threaded online discussions, listening to lectures and watching multimedia lessons. Approximately two-thirds of your study time will be spent on independent reading, writing and collaborative projects with your classmates.

Does the MJ degree qualify me to sit for the bar exam or to practice law?

No. A Master of Jurisprudence degree is an academic law degree, as opposed to a professional law degree like the Juris Doctor. It does not qualify its graduates to sit for the bar exam or practice law, but rather prepares them to excel in a particular area of business by virtue of their expertise in the law.

Who will my faculty be?

You’ll be taught by faculty members who are national and international authorities on environmental and energy law as well as labor and employment issues, like Program Director Saru Matambanadzo.
